Does TraceBuds require an Apple Pencil?
No. TraceBuds works great using a finger. Apple Pencil is fully supported and adds advanced live pressure/grip diagnostics, but is not required to complete any of the levels.
My Apple Pencil isn't being detected.
Make sure your Apple Pencil is charged and paired via iPad Settings > Bluetooth. TraceBuds detects Apple Pencil automatically the moment you touch the screen with it. If it still doesn't register, try force-quitting and reopening the app.
What age range is TraceBuds designed for?
TraceBuds is designed for children roughly ages 4 to 10. Difficulty parameters and stage unlocks adjust automatically based on the age you configure during setup, which can be modified anytime in the Reports tab.
I forgot the answer to the parent math check. How do I get into Reports?
The parent math check is a quick verification designed for adults. If you're stuck, simply close the app completely (force-quit) and reopen it to generate a new math equation.
Can I reset my child's progress?
There is no bulk "reset progress" button in the app settings today. To clear progress, you can delete and reinstall the app, which clears all locally stored data.
Is my child's data private?
Yes, absolutely. All tracing statistics, names, and progress records reside strictly on your iPad's local storage (SwiftData sandboxing). TraceBuds does not send any data to external servers.
Tracing doesn't feel accurate, or my touch isn't registering well.
Check that any screen protector isn't interfering with touch sensitivity, and that the iPad screen is clean. Also verify that your Apple Pencil tip is tightly screwed on and the battery is charged.

Yes. TraceBuds is free to download and use on iPad with no hidden costs, ads, or microtransactions.

  • No Server Collection: None of your child's data, drawing coordinates, names, or metrics leave the local iPad.
  • No Tracking / Analytics: We do not include any third-party ads, analytics, or tracking scripts.
  • No Accounts Required: Start using the app immediately without providing emails, passwords, or personal details.
